Fully refurbished in time for the 2012 season, Mainoaks 15th century farmstead in the glorious Wye Valley is now offering its visitors the chance to stay in the choice of six four-star self-catering cottages.
Prices range from £368 per week in the ultra-romantic Coppett Cottage, which sleeps two people, in the low season; through to £1,138 in the historic Cider Mill (sleeps seven) during high days, holidays and the high season.
Anyone booking a three-night break at Mainoaks throughout 2012, meanwhile, will be offered a fourth night entirely free of charge.
Family-friendly and dog-friendly, it ticks every box when it comes to a get-away-from-it-all short break or holiday in the heart of the country.
Switch-off the PC and the television, and it becomes the perfect antidote to the stresses and pressures of current day life.
But switch them both back on again, and the free WiFi connection, DVD players and iPod docks offer all of the home comforts you’d expect in any cottage of this quality.
What makes Mainoaks so very different from the rest, however, is its extraordinary history.
A place of dwelling since the 12th century, the modern day property is styled out of the original 15th century farmstead – which even featured a traditional Herefordshire cider mill.
The Wye Valley on the English-Welsh border, meanwhile, has been farmed, fought-over and enjoyed for centuries.
And careful the restoration and refurbishment of Mainoaks (or “Mannox”, as many of the locals call it because of previous owners) has ensured that while none of the history has been lost, it can actually be seen in the very fabric and wooden beams of every cottage.
So fire-up your log-burning stove with an endless supply of logs from the nearby barn, sit back, and relax.
Everything else – from fabulous footpaths to fine dining, private angling, outdoor pursuits to fine dining – is either on your doorstep, or just a short drive away.
The six cosy cottages are capable of accommodating up to a total of 27 guests and comprise:
- The Cider Mill (sleeps 7, £592-£1,138pw),
- Peregrine Cottage with a large garden area (sleeps 6, £592-£1,138pw),
- The Malt House (sleeps 4, £460-£1,034pw),
- Huntsham Cottage (sleeps 4, £401-£777pw),
- Biblins Cottage with its spiral staircase (sleeps 4, £368-£708pw), and
- The entirely romantic Coppett Cottage (sleeps 2, £368-£708pw).
A short drive from the A40, it’s also a short cut to the perfect break. For FULL details, visit www.mainoaks.co.uk
